Residence Hall Students – Frequently Asked Questions

The following is a list of questions frequently asked by new students regarding on-campus housing.

When will I receive my room and roommate assignment?

Assignments will be emailed by August 1, to everyone who registers online before that date.  Anyone registering after August 1 will receive assignment upon arrival to campus.

What do I do if I want to make a change to my preferences on my residence hall application?

You may e-mail the housing office at -- with any changes you would like prior to receiving assignment.

What if I am not happy with my assignment?

Once an assignment is made, changes are not permitted.  Students will have the opportunity to make changes at the semester break.

Can I arrive before the official move in date of August 24th?

No early arrivals are allowed.  If you will need housing before the halls open, you can inquire with the La Quinta at 800-531-5900.  Be sure to mention Northwest University.

What is the size of my room?

The average room size is 15 feet in length and 11 feet 3 inches in width.  The average closet is 4 feet wide and 2 feet 3 inches deep.

What furniture items are in my room?

Each student will have an extra long twin bed, a mattress, a desk, a desk chair, a dresser and a bookshelf.

What will the residence halls provide for me as a student?

  • Two ethernet computer hook-ups in each room (Internet access is available through our Information Services department during registration)
  • Phone hookup
  • Voicemail
  • Full-length mirror
  • Bike storage area
  • Kitchenette area, including a microwave and stove
  • Card-operated laundry facilities

What items should I and should I not bring?

What you need to bring:

  • Extra-long twin bed sheets and other bedding
  • Hangers
  • Towels
  • Pillow
  • Alarm clock

Optional items you can bring:

  • Telephone
  • Residence hall size refrigerator
  • Coffee pot
  • Toaster (no toaster ovens)
  • Door-size message board, like a dry erase board
  • Electric "hot pot" for boiling water
  • Small Television

Items you may NOT bring:

  • Microwave (unless you are in Perks Hall – none of the residence halls, except Perks, can accommodate microwaves.)
  • Candles or anything with an open flame
  • Toaster oven or any small appliance with an open element
  • Halogen lamps
  • Pets
