KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University had six players in double figures tonight as they posted a 96-50 non-conference win over Evergreen. Northwest U. improves to 6-0 on the season. For Evergreen, it was their first game of the year.
Northwest scoring the first 14 points without an answer from the Geoducks. Ryan Dornik’s 3 pointer at the 11:52 mark made it 22-7. Michael Greene’s finish in the paint would increase the NU lead to 17 (26-9) as the Eagles would shoot a hot 60% for the first half. Evergreen’s KJ Hong’s 3 pointer would make it 38-19, but Northwest would answer with a Michael Russo jumper to make it 40-19 with 5:38 left in the half. Greene would hit a layup and Evergreen’s Travis Wagner would drive the lane for a layup to end the scoring for the half with NU leading 44-21.
The Eagles would not cool down in the second half as they would continue to blister the net with 63% shooting. Evergreen would hit 10 of their 29 shots for 35% as Northwest would pull away for their sixth straight win of the season.
The six Northwest U. (6-0) Eagles in double figures were: Michael Greene (22), Michael Russo (19), Ryan McIntosh (11), Ryan Dornik (11), Nick Crossan and Brett Skogstad with 10 points each. Greene hit 11 of 12 shots for a 91.6% FG average. Rebounding was even at 33 board for each team and the Eagles handed out 23 assists for the night.
KJ Hong led Evergreen (0-1) with 9 points while teammate Travis Wagner score 8 points. Cody Peters had 6 points and 6 rebounds for the Geoducks who shot 33% for the game, 28% from the 3 point line.
“Overall, I thought our bench played pretty well tonight,” commented John Van Dyke, Eagle head coach. “I was especially happy for Jeremy Paull and Nikola Djokovic, in that they were able to get some quality minutes and make the most of them. Our assist to turnover ratio showed we were sharing the ball as well.”
Northwest U. remains at home and will host New Hope Christian College in another non-conference contest on Saturday night, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
