

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.- The NU Eagles were shut out in the their Cascade Conference season opener this afternoon, 3-0, by Oregon Tech on a warm, 82 degree day in Klamath Falls.
OIT scored once in the first and twice in the second to earn the shutout. Rebekah Nesbet put the Owls on the scoreboard in the 8th minute as she hit her free kick from 20 yards out and just over NU goalie, Mariah O’Brien, for the score. Melanie Johnson scored the first of her two goals at the 56:22 mark of the second half as she scored from the left side and into the right corner, 12 yards out. Johnson then scored again in the 62 minute as she scored from 20 yards out from the top of the box and into the top right corner of the goal.
Northwest U. (1-8-1, 0-1 CCC) outshot Tech (3-3, 1-0 CCC), 20-15, forcing OIT’s goalkeeper to make 8 saves on the day. The Eagles pressed in the second half as 13 of their shots were taken to the Owls six. NU had 13 corner kicks to just one for Oregon Tech. Mariah O’Brien and Patty Hughes combined for 5 saves for the Eagles.
“It’s not the start we wanted in conference play, but we failed to execute our game plan in the first half,” comment Erin Redwine, NU head coach, “We turned it around in the second half, but just didn’t finish our chances.”
NU will remain in Oregon and will take on Southern Oregon in Ashland on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. before they head back to Kirkland.
