Eagles Move on to Championship Game with Win Over OIT

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University scored two first half goals to defeat Oregon Tech, 2-1 in the Cascade Conference semifinal game this afternoon to advance to next week’s championship final.

NU, the CCC No. 1 seed, got two goals from Jessica Oliver with her first score coming at the 8:27 mark as she put her blast in from 20 yards out into the net. Samantha Porter had the assist on the goal. Oliver’s second goal came in the 31st minute as she struck a long, 40 yarder from the right side and into the far corner of the goal.

Oregon Tech, the No. 4 seed, pulled to within a goal at the 42:28 mark as Rebekah Nisbet hit a 30 yarder over the outstretched arms of the NU goalkeeper and into the left corner of the net.

The defenses took over in the second half and neither team was able to score as OIT’s keeper, Rebekah Matteri, made 5 of her 7 saves in the period and NU goalkeeper, Patty Hughes stopped 4 Tech shots on goal. Northwest’s Jordan Wilson came close to scoring in the 77th minute as her shot would hit the left post and bounce away. Tech’s Nisbet also had a long 35 yarder get knocked away by Hughes at the 87:57 mark.

Northwest U. outshot OIT 18-15 and had a big edge on the corner kicks, 11 to 2. Tech’s Rebekah Matteri had a solid day in goal for the Owls with 7 saves while NU’s Patty Hughes had a total of 5 saves for the day.

Northwest will host the CCC championship game next Saturday, Nov. 10 with the time to be announced.
