KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Northwest University women’s soccer team will seek their first Cascade Collegiate post season championship tomorrow (Saturday) as they face No. 6 ranked Concordia University (Ore.) for the title. The winning team advances to the NAIA national tournament.
Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. and will be held on the university’s Kirkland campus. Admission is free.
The Eagles (9-8-2, 7-1-1 CCC, NAIA RV) are the regular season CCC champion and the No. 1 seed in the post season tournament while Concordia (14-2-2, 7-2 CCC, NAIA No. 6) comes in as the No. 2 seed. NU defeated Concordia 1-0 in Portland on Oct. 26 to topple Concordia from the league’s top spot. CU had won the CCC title for 12 straight seasons, sharing it just once in 2009 with the College of Idaho. This will be the second straight year NU and CU have faced each other in the championship game with Concordia winning lat year, 1-0, in Portland.
For Northwest, it was a slow start as they went 1-8-1 in tough preseason schedule and losing their conference opener to Oregon Tech. The women then tied Southern Oregon in two overtimes and then went on a eight game winning streak which included five straight shutouts and a 2-1 semifinal win over Oregon Tech in the CCC semifinal.
