LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Northwest University men’s basketball team has been named the Adidas Team of the Week for January 7-13 the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced.
The No. 22 Eagles went on the road this weekend and defeated Oregon Tech 76-72 on Friday for their first ever program victory in Klamath Falls over the Owls. Ryan McIntosh led the way with 33 points while teammate Michael Greene contributed in 27 points. McIntosh was a late addition to the starting lineup as Michael Russo had developed back problems prior to the start of the game.
In a match-up between teams ranked in the NAIA top 25, Northwest upset No. 14 Southern Oregon University 82-73 on Saturday. Against the Raiders three Northwest players scored over 20 points each, again led by McIntosh with 23 points. Ryan Dornik and Michael Greene both scored 22 points for the Eagles in the game. Greene added 10 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season.
“I am extremely proud of our group,” stated Head Coach John Van Dyke. “We played short-handed this weekend and could not have responded better.” The Eagles were without the services of their second leading scorer Michael Russo. Russo was out with back spasms the entire weekend.
Northwest (17-4, 7-2 CCC) will be on the road again next weekend as they take on Corban and Northwest Christian as they begin the second round of CCC action.
Congratulations to Coach Van Dyke, his staff and the entire Eagle team!
