NU Shut Out By Concordia

PORTLAND, Ore. - It was a tough night for the NU Eagles as they fell to Concordia, 5-0, in a battle for first place in the CCC.

Northwest and Concordia were both 3-0 in Cascade Conference play coming into tonight’s game and it was the Cavaliers who jumped out early, scoring in the third minute of play as Septi Danciu headed one in from 15 yards out. CU’s Sam Carmichael scored at the 16:24 mark from 7 yards out as he took a cross from Patrick Allred on the right side and knocked it past Eagle goalkeeper, Joe Galbraith. Jared Brace ended the first half scoring for Concordia in the 33rd minute as he took a pass and put it into the net from 20 yards out. NU would have 8 shots in the first half but could not manage a score.

Septi Danciu and Jared Brace each score their second goals for the Cavaliers in the second half to clinch the victory for Concordia and hand Northwest U. their first conference loss.

“We got out worked tonight plain and simple,” commented Gary McIntosh.  “We made too many mistakes on defense which cost us in the end.”

Northwest (5-2-1, 3-1 CCC) outshot Concordia (5-2-1, 4-0 CCC) 18-16, but managed only 3 shots on goal. Arne Niermann earns the shutout for CU with three saves. Joe Galbraith had one save for the Eagles in goal.

The Eagles will return to Portland again on Tues., Sept. 25, to take on Warner Pacific in another conference game. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
