Vancouver, Wash. - NU’s Matt Porter competed at the 2012 NAIA Men’s Cross Country National Championships held Saturday at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and finished 64th in a field of 309 runners from across the country. Porter qualified for the championships with his 13th place finish in the recent Cascade Conference Championships on November 3 in Portland’s Lents Park. It was Porter’s second consecutive year qualifying for the event.
Matt ran the 8k course in 25:48 running against competitors from both NAIA Division I and II. It was the fourth-consecutive year that the NAIA Men’s Cross Country National Championships were held at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. It was hosted by the Cascade Collegiate Conference and Concordia University-Portland (Ore.).
Said NU coach Mark Mandi, “I thought Matt ran his best collegiate race ever, he ran fearlessly and aggressively. What a neat way to end his cross country career. I am thankful to all those who came down to support him.”
Congratulations, Matt, on a great season!
