

ASHLAND, Ore. - No. 29 Southern Oregon defeated the NU Eagles 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18) tonight in front of 573 fans in Bob Riehm Arena.
The first set would see NU battling the Raiders early. After Olivia VanDlac would tie the set at 9-9, SOU would go on a 6-1 run to take the lead for good at 15-10. Two Raider kills and an Eagle error would end the set.
In set two, Southern Oregon would lead the entire way taking an early 16-7 lead and increasing the lead to 21-11 capped off with kills by Haley Kasler and Natalie Scheller. An attack error by NU would end the set in favor of the Raiders.
The third set would be the Eagles best effort as they would fall behind 10-7 early, but would battle back to tie the set at 13 and 14-all. Rae Ann Hasting’s two kills would tie the set and give NU a 15-14 lead which they would never relinquish. SOU would stay within striking distance the entire set, but each time they would challenge, the Eagles would respond. Two more Hastings’ kills would give the set victory to NU, 25-20.
In the final set, NU would compete and hang with the Raiders. SOU would finally break a 9-9 tie to take the lead Trailing 14-12, NU would get a kill from Breanna Covey and an attack error by SOU to knot the score at 14-all. Two NU miscues and a kill by Natalie Scheller would put SOU up 17-14. Southern would out score the Eagles 8-4 as Haley Kasler’s kill would end the set and the match.
Rae Ann Hastings had 13 kills for Northwest U. (13-12, 7-9 CCC) tonight. Olivia VanDlac would add 8 kills and Heather Shulke would have team honors in digs with 32. Freshman Ashton Arbuthnot would finish with a match high 35 assists.
The Eagles will wrap up the regular season at home when they host Northwest Christian on Fri., Nov. 2 and Corban Univ. on Sat., Nov. 3.
