

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Northwest University had three players in double figures but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles fell to Whitman College tonight, 66-53, in a non-conference game.
Northwest and Whitman battled back and forth for most of the first half as the period would see 8 ties. With the game tied at 27-27 with 4:55 to go in the half, Whitman would go on an 11-4 run to take a 38-31 lead going into the break.
Whitman would start the second half with a run that would increase their lead to ten points, 48-38, after Hallie Buse would hit a 3 pointer for the Missionaries at the 15:46 mark. Northwest would battle back and Carley Davis’ layup at the 13:32 mark would make it a six point game, 50-44. A jumper by Whitman’s Alyssa Maine and a layup in the lane by Tiffani Traver would increase their lead to ten once again, 56-46 with 9:52 on the clock. NU would close to within seven, 60-53, with 4:13 remaining in the game, but it would be the closest they would get as the Missionaries would go on a 6-0 run to finish the game.
Domi Mendezona led Northwest (0-5) with 13 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds. Sanda Milovic would add 12 points and Carley Davis would finish with 10 points and 5 rebounds. NU would shoot 35% for the game after a 46% effort in the first half.
Whitman’s Heather Lovelace and Sarah Anderegg both led the Missionaries with 14 points each. Heather Johns added 8 points and Tiffani Traver had a game high 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Whitman shot 45% for the night which included a cool 9.5% from the 3 points line (2-21).
Said NU coach Lori Napier, “We improved in some areas today but just need to learn how to finish. I’m looking forward to having a full week of practice.”
