Vanessa was a 4-year varsity letter winner in two sports at Lakeside High School in Eastern Washington. She was a team captain in 2010 and 2011 and was named Academic All-Conference from 2008 through 2011. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was ASB president at Lakeside.

In 2009 and 2011, Ahrendt was first team all-league and a second team all-league member in 2010.
