Waltman played for coach Larry Walker at Everett CC in 2008-09 and averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds per game.

In 2008, Waltman was named to the NWAACC Tournament 2^nd team and in 2009 was 2^nd team All-League and played in the NWAACC All Star game. He played his high school basketball at Monroe High School and is the older brother of current Eagle player, Jason Waltman, a forward on the 2008-09 Eagle team.

Stephen is a versatile athlete who also a member of the Monroe High School track and field team and participated in the 110 meter hurdles, triple jump, discus and 4X100 meter relay.
