PORTLAND, Ore. – Following one of the most successful men’s soccer season’s in NU’s history, Eagle Head Coach Gary McIntosh was named the Cascade Conference Coach of the Year by a vote of the league’s coaches. Coach McIntosh led the Eagles to a 7-5-2 conference mark and the team earned the No. 3 seed in this year’s conference tournament. In earning the No. 3 seed and third place finish, NU won 6 of 8 of their final games plus two ties for a 6-0-2 mark which included victories over the No. 2 seed, Concordia and the eventual conference champion, Warner Pacific.
“What an honor it is to be recognized as coach of the year by the men's conference coaches,” commented Coach McIntosh. “We never as a program even talk about individual awards it is always about the big goal of making playoffs. I need to thank my assistant coaches for their diligent work, effort, support, patience, and willingness to do anything I needed from them,” McIntosh continued. “I thank the players for there belief in the coaching staff and the willingness to do what we ask of them, the players are truly what makes this program successful. I owe a lot to my wife Laura and kids, for their continued support of me and the soccer program over the last seven years. I want to thank Northwest University for opportunity to coach and the support they have given me.”
Coach McIntosh is in his 7th year as the head coach of the men’s soccer program and also serves as the university’s Director of Athletics. This award is nothing new for McIntosh as he was named coach of the year three consecutive years by his conference when he was head man at San Diego Christian College from 1998-2001.
