The NU Eagles 3200m relay and Shayna Prause were part of the first day of the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Muncie, Ind., on Thursday.
The 3200m relay, comprised of Lindsey Wagner, Shayna Prause, Julia Johnson and Paige DeLapp, took 8th place in their heat finishing in a time of 9:40.05. They bettered their previous best of 9:40.63 established in the St. Martin's Invitational earlier this month.
Junior Shayna Prause took 8th in her heat in the women's javelin with a distance of 37.51m (123-01). Prause's distance was just short of her season's best of 38.77m (127-02) which she threw in the Ralph Vernacchia meet in Bellingham in April.
"The 4X8 (3200m relay) ran well," stated Head Coach Mark Mandi. "Running against the nation's best is always an eye opener and can be intimidating, but they left it all out on the track. The majority of the team is sophomores, so we expect to come back next year stronger and faster," Mandi continued. "Shayna said she felt great throwing in the javelin and it showed as she finished 22nd. She has one more year to improve on that and we fully expect to do so as long as she can stay healthy," Coach Mandi concluded.
