Bridges 12th in NAIA National Meet, Earns All-American Status
Seth Bridges capped off an outstanding cross country career with a 12th place finish in the 2011 NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships held at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site Park this morning. By finishing in the top 30 runners, Seth has earned NAIA All-American status, NU's first since Beth Knudtson won the honor in 2007.
Seth ran a 24:27 for the 8k course and was one of only two CCC runners to finish in the top twelve. It was shy of his season's best of 24:16 and the top time in the CCC this year. Greg Montgomery of the College of Idaho took 7th place with his time of 24:17. There were a total of 312 runners taking part in the race.
NU's Matt Porter finished in 98th in a tight race with four other runners all finishing with a time of 25:44, just shy of his season's best of 25:20.
"It was hard to believe this was Seth's first national cross country meet because he competed like he had been here many times," commented Eagle head coach, Mark Mandi. "He was fearless throughout the race and positioned himself to finish well. For Matt (Porter), it gives him experience in the nationals and now he knows what to expect."
DeLapp 142nd in Women's Race
NU's Paige DeLapp finished 142nd in the women's race in a time of 19:16 at the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championships this morning. There were 323 runners entered in the race which took place at the Ft. Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash., DeLapp's hometown.
"There were a lot of fast runners in the group today," said Coach Mark Mandi. "It can be very difficult to find a good rhythm when you are running in such a big pack for the entire race, but for Paige, to be in the race, it was a great experience for her."
