NU Unplugged: Battle of the Bands

NU Unplugged: Battle of the Bands

Each spring, NU offers newly admitted students the opportunity to visit campus overnight for NU Unplugged. This event allows future students to get a firsthand experience of the NU community by being hosted by current students and participating in a variety of great events.

Thursday, Mar. 26, 2015, the dimly lit chapel was filled with the vibrant colors of neon glow sticks as current and future Eagles united for the second annual NU Unplugged Battle of the Bands. Sophomore rapper Jacob Weaver and his DJ, senior Austin Carney, won first place after an intense night of competition.

The other three bands competing were junior Siobhon McManus and freshman Owen Chung in their acoustic duo Turn Down for Brown, Queen cover band King led by junior Niko Johnson, and sophomore Sydney Bell with former student Lauren Haas in pop duo Sincerely, Soul.

The event was divided into three rounds, with the first round featuring non-elimination performances. The second round involved two one-on-one competitions, with Turn Down for Brown and Jacob Weaver advancing into the final round before Weaver was named the winner.
