One of Paul Bahnsen’s favorite verses was II Timothy 1:9: “For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Paul G. and Joyce Bahnsen were committed parents. They grew up in western Oregon where they married and raised their family. Their strong belief in Jesus was demonstrated in their consistent church attendance, giving and sharing, reading the word of God and devotion. Nearly every morning Paul would kneel and faithfully pray before setting out for the day. Paul and Joyce’s faith and belief in God had a strong impact on the children. They had a giving spirit and demonstrated their answer to God’s call by supporting God’s servants. Lonnie and Sharon (daughter) Smelser have established the Paul G. and Joyce Bahnsen Memorial Scholarship with the intention that their gift to Northwest University will be instrumental for many years to come by supporting students preparing to Carry the Call. Through this scholarship fund they honor Sharon’s parents, Paul and Joyce, by continuing the good stewardship of giving which the Bahnsen’s instilled in their children. Through this scholarship they pass along a legacy of rich Christian heritage and the biblical principle of giving.
