Dawn Michelle Jordshaugen was a beautiful young woman with a sparkling smile and a sense of humor that brought laughter to the doctor’s offices where she worked for over 5 years. She was an average student until she started her training to become a medical assistant at age 20. Dawn excelled with a 4.0 throughout her training. The patients she worked with loved Dawn for her caring, friendly attitude and technical skills. Dawn’s goal was to return to college to obtain her nursing degree. Before realizing her dream to enter Northwest University’s nursing program, she contracted a staph infection and died on June 16, 2000, at a hospital in Seattle, Washington.
Dawn’s parents have established this scholarship in Dawn’s memory so as to honor her desire to care for others through the medical field. It is hoped that through Dawn’s story that future nursing students attending Northwest University, and recipients of this memorial scholarship, will find inspiration and encouragement to “carry the call” that Dawn had chosen.
