Must be a member or an adherent of a Southern Idaho District Council of the Assemblies of God church. The recipient must be of sophomore or higher standing.
The H.B. Walkup Memorial Scholarship was created in 1992 following the death of Homer B. Walkup, to assist young people studying for full time ministry.
Homer Walkup started in the ministry in the Rocky Mountain District, at the age of 19 and newly married to Rachel! He pastored three (3) churches in that District and resigned the church at Bush, Colorado, in 1938 to move to Idaho.
The Walkups pioneered a church at Donnelly, which is near McCall, following their move to Idaho. They pastored several other churches in Idaho. Homer became C.A. Secretary-Treasurer and soon after became the District Secretary-Treasurer. He was on the Board of Directors at Northwest University for approximately twenty (20) years, and was in a leadership position in the Southern Idaho District throughout his ministry.
Rev. Walkup became the Southern Idaho District Superintendent in 1966, and filled that position until his semi-retirement in 1981. Until his death, he was actively involved as Senior Minister at the Twin Falls First Assembly of God Church.
When he was promoted to Glory in April of 1992, the family received several gifts from relatives and friends, and the decision was made to start the H.B. Walkup Memorial Scholarship at Northwest University. Sister Rachel Walkup and her family make contributions to this fund, and every year since it’s inception grants have been made to worthy aspiring ministerial students.
Our hope is that this fund will continue to grow and become a lasting memorial in honor of a great man of God.
Rev. H.B. Walkup received the Delta Tau Award for meritorious contribution to Northwest University, May, 1981.
