Assistant or Associate Professor of Graduate Psychology

College of Social and Behavioral Sciences

Reports to: Matt Nelson, Ph.D., Dean, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences

Essential Functions

The primary functions of a full-time, tenure-track faculty member, in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, is to teach graduate psychology courses, aid students in their clinical training, guide students in their research activities, participate in academic research, and produce scholarly presentations and publications. Faculty are also expected to fully participate in University life including committee work and other institution activities. 

Qualifications

  • Can document earned graduate degrees: Ph.D., Ed.D., or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology
  • Has several years of clinical experience and holds a current psychologist license in Washington State (or is license eligible in Washington State)
  • Is involved in ongoing research in psychology and is published
  • Has had successful teaching experience at the university level
  • Is committed to establishing and maintaining positive mentoring relationships with a diverse student body
  • Is committed to establishing and maintaining positive relationships with faculty, staff, and the general constituency of Northwest University
  • Is committed to diversity, intercultural education, and multicultural psychology, and is committed to communicating the ethos of “psychology, culture and social justice” for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences
  • Is committed to the development of skills in his/her students by coaching, modeling, and direct instruction
  • Possesses a deep, personal commitment to Jesus Christ and to the Spirit-filled life and demonstrates integration of faith and learning
  • Has compassion and a commitment to serve poor and underserved groups in keeping with the vision of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences to integrate psychology, culture, and social justice

Northwest University

Northwest University is a Christian coeducational undergraduate and graduate institution, related to the Assemblies of God, offering baccalaureate and master's, and doctoral level education. The sixty-acre campus is located in Kirkland, Washington, just ten miles from downtown Seattle. Educational Goals

In view of its distinctive philosophy, Northwest University seeks to provide education which will introduce the student to the organized fields of learning and will acquaint the student with the Christian theistic view of the world and of people and their culture. Such an education is intended to develop the whole person in a balanced and useful manner.

The academic program includes majors and areas of concentration in over forty fields of study including ten graduate programs. Sixty-three full-time faculty members and sixty-one part-time instructors teach 1,582 students. Over sixty-one percent of the faculty holds the doctoral degree, fifty-one percent are tenured, and forty-three percent are women.

Accreditation

Northwest University is a regionally-accredited, Christian coeducational undergraduate institution offering baccalaureate college education under the control of the Alaska, Montana, Oregon, Northwest, Southern Idaho, and Wyoming districts of the Assemblies of God.

Northwest University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (regional). The University is endorsed by the Commission on Christian Higher Education of the Assemblies of God and the Association of Christian Schools International. The University also holds membership in the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities.

Northwest University's School of Business and Management is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The Buntain School of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. In addition, the School of Nursing has received approval from the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission. The University is also approved by the Board of Education and Superintendent of Public Instruction of the State of Washington to prepare elementary and secondary education teachers and recommend for certification. It is a member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

The University is approved by the Federal and State Governments for student aid programs and for the training of international students. Selected programs of study are approved by a Washington State Approving Agency for enrollment of those eligible for benefits under Title 38 and Title 10, U.S. Code and by Washington State for training in Vocational Rehabilitation. It is listed in the current bulletin, "Accredited Higher Education Institutions," published by the U.S. Office of Education.
