In my own sermon study and preparation recently, I have been reminded of the importance of the process... the significance of the journey.
In our results-oriented culture, it’s easy to become focused on just our goals, and lose track of the paths we must take, the work we must do, to reach those goals.
That’s why I see, more and more, the benefit of structured and disciplined study into the various facets of theology, culture, ministry, and leadership that affect church leaders today.
If it’s true that one person can sharpen another, as iron sharpens iron, then I want the opportunity to learn from – and with – those who are fully committed to serving today’s church to reach today’s world.
That’s why I so deeply appreciate the opportunity to pursue a Master’s Degree at Northwest University.
The faculty and leadership at Northwest University are committed to training leaders for the twenty-first century, and that’s why I have joined with them.
I am discovering that they are leading us on a journey that is rewarding in itself, as we grow in the image of Christ, but that promises to take us to places of even greater effectiveness as we labor in the whitened harvest fields.

One of the commitments I have made as a leader is to be a “life-long learner.”
This goal has been realized through various avenues in my life, but no more specifically or dramatically than through my pursuit of formal graduate education.
I am on the verge of completing the first phase of my post-graduate studies and will graduate with a master’s degree this spring.
The learning journey has been life-changing, and I have been able to accomplish it in concert with others who have enhanced the experience and made it even more practical and valuable.
I have found classes to be relevant, challenging, and highly applicable to my daily ministry tasks. I do not hesitate to recommend this same journey for others!
