Charlotte Davis, Former Dorm "Mom," Dies at 85March 9, 2005
Charlotte Lorraine Lloyd Davis, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 4, 2005. She died of natural causes relating to congestive heart failure. Charlotte had been residing at Vashon Community Care Center for the past couple of years. She was born July 15, 1919, in Great Falls, Mont. and moved to Wenatchee, Wash. when she was 10 years old. That year, she discovered the truth that God loved her and she set about to live her life in a manner that would bring honor to Him and would bring blessing to the lives she would touch over the following 75 years. At 15, Charlotte came to Seattle with her guitar in tow to attend Northwest Bible College. She was the youngest student and was well looked after by staff and friends. She met the love of her life, Frank Robert Davis, and married him in Leavenworth in 1939, where their two sons, Donovan and Frank, were born. Their four year marriage ended in the untimely accidental death of her husband. Charlotte set out to meet the financial needs of raising her family. Her primary vocation was in the grocery and bakery business providing, fine wedding cakes for many young couples. She resided in Wenatchee, Wash., until 1963, when she became the Women’s Dormitory Supervisor at Northwest College in Kirkland, Wash. After 11 years of service there and a dream trip to Kenya to see her son and family, she retired from that work and returned to the cake decorating business. Her greatest and most passionate calling in life was prayer and serving the body of Christ with hopeful expectation, believing in the scripture that says, “call unto Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things.” Her second greatest passion was the lives of her family. She is survived by her beloved sons Donovan and Carol Davis of Lindale, Texas; Frank and Pam Davis of Vashon Island, Wash.; grandchildren Derek and Lisa Davis of Mesquite, Texas, Erin and Jeff Ward, Rebekah and Michael Carnathan, Douglas Davis, all of Lindale; Genhi and Darrel Hawes of Springdale, Wash.; Jared and Holly Davis of Mountlake Terrace, Wash. and Aminta and Mathew Braun of Portland, Ore.; her beloved great-grandchildren Jacob, Justin, Katie-Anne, Brooke, Jordan, Jayden, Connor, Brendan, Ethan, Aidan, Caedmon and Simeon. Her brothers Robert Lloyd of Wenatchee and Kenneth Lloyd of Spokane also survive Charlotte, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Charlotte was a loved and respected member of Vashon Island Community Church and carried a great desire to see the new addition completed. Those who wish to make memorial donations may do so to the church’s Building Fund at POB 2479, Vashon, Wash. 98070. A Memorial Service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at Vashon Island Community Church, 9318 SW Cemetery Rd., Vashon, Wash., with burial following in Wenatchee on Friday, March 11. Charlotte’s sons would like to thank the community of Vashon and more specifically the Vashon Community Care Center for their love, kindness, and respect for their mom during her final years. |
