Dr. Jim Heugel Assumes Provost Position

Dr. Jim Heugel was named Provost of Northwest University May 9, 2005, and has transitioned into his new position. He had been serving as Associate Professor of History at Northwest.
Dr. Marshall Flowers, who headed the Office of the Provost for the past 17 years, assisted Dr. Heugel in the transition.
Dr. Flowers has assumed the position of Senior Vice President for Institutional Research. His new role will begin with a sabbatical devoted to providing context and research opportunities. At Commencement activities this year, Dr. Flowers was awarded the Delta Tau Award for his contributions to Northwest.
Dr. Heugel is a 1979 graduate of Northwest. He earned his M.A. from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1984 and his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 2003.
Before returning to Northwest as a member of the faculty, he was in full-time pastoral ministry. He served for ten years in campus ministry at the University of Washington and for five years as the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel in Seattle.
Dr. Heugel’s wife Cheri is a Registered Nurse who works in infant special care. Their son Judson is training to be a physician, and their daughter Callie graduated from Northwest University in 2005 with a degree in Education.
Dr. Heugel’s hobbies include backpacking, cycling, golf, and scuba diving.
