Chris Hickman Awarded Bronze Star
Chris Hickman (left) was awarded the Bronze Star on March 8 for his service in Iraq. He is the son of Dan Hickman (center) who serves Northwest University as the Director of Extended Community and Chaplain for the athletic teams. Also in the photo are Chris’ brother, Scott, a 2005 graduate of Northwest, and their mother, Colleen. Chris entered the U.S. Army directly after high school. He has served for six years, including two tours in Iraq. He is now a Staff Sergeant and a Bradley (tank) Commander. The Bronze Star is awarded to any person who, while serving with the Army of the United States, has distinguished himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service in connection with military operations against an armed enemy. Chris is now stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado, through August. According to his father, Dan, Chris may then pursue a career as a game warden. “I’m so proud of Chris because of the way he shows Christ in a humble, unpretentious way -- he simply lives Christ,” Dan stated. “I’m also grateful to our many friends and colleagues who prayed for his safety while he was in Iraq, and I thank God for protecting Chris.” The photo was taken at an Eagles' basketball game during the Christmas holidays, when Chris made a surprise visit home from Iraq to visit his family. |
