Northwest University Awards DoctoratesMarch 30, 2007 The Northwest University Board of Directors, by recent Executive Committee action, will award honorary Doctor of Divinity (D.D.) degrees to Pastor Wendell Smith and Mrs. Patricia Argue during commencement exercises May 5, 2007. The honorary doctorate is the highest honor awarded by the University.
Mrs. Patricia Argue“We have taken action to honor Pat’s significant contribution to Northwest University over the last decade and to the broader Body of Christ over a lifetime. It is our distinct privilege to mark her life achievements in this Pat met Don while they were students at Central Bible College (Springfield, Missouri). They were married in 1961 and have three children and six grandchildren. She earned a BS at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis) and a MATS at Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, Minnesota). In addition to standing with Don in support of his leadership in churches, universities, and the National Association of Evangelicals, Pat has served as professor, church musician, and sought after speaker. Don Argue will complete nine years of serving as Northwest’s president and will then transition to other ministry and leadership responsibilities in August.
Pastor Wendell Smith“It will be our joy to honor our colleague and friend in this way,” explained Dr. Don Argue, President of Northwest University. Pastor Wendell Smith and his wife Gini founded the City Church of Seattle in 1992 with 21 people. The ethnically diverse congregation has grown into a church of thousands on four campuses in Kirkland, Issaquah, and Seattle. “City Church has grown into a great partner in ministry with Northwest,” said Argue. For the past seven years, City Church has been among the top five churches sending students to Northwest; for the past two years Since 1934, Northwest University has successfully prepared students for service and leadership. Nearly 1,300 students study in over 50 academic programs including nursing, teacher education, business, psychology, biblical literature, and church ministries. Masters degree programs are offered in education, business, and counseling psychology. Students are challenged, and then equipped, to Carry the Call: with their hearts, to develop compassion and character; with their heads, to discover the joy of rigorous study and mental discipline; and with their hands, to actively engage the world around them. |
