The Center for English Language Education (CELE) is hosting an event Monday for Northwest University students titled Global PROfiles: Learning What Works to Study, Work, and Live Abroad. The event will be held in HSC 233 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4.
This year’s event will highlight four areas of global opportunities: competitive academic and service programs, Northwest University’s intercultural programs, graduate school, and the international voices that are present at NU. There will be specific presentations on: Fulbright Scholars, The Peace Corp, NU Nursing Abroad, UK Grad Schools, and International Student Culture booths.
The mission of CELE, the organization sponsoring the event, is to equip international students with the English language and cultural competency to succeed in an American university setting. CELE also wants to encourage students from the U.S. to travel to other countries.
“We recognize the amazing learning opportunities that can only come through stepping outside of one’s home culture and exploring another,” states Dr. Autumn Witt, the Director of CELE, “and we want to highlight opportunities that Northwest University students have to go abroad. This is an incredible growing experience for the student, of course. In addition, a globally aware campus is much more welcoming and beneficial to international students.”
There are already numerous opportunities for NU students to study globally, through Northwest programs and through programs with the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). “At CELE, we want to support and publicize the programs already in place and also explain some new opportunities,” notes Dr. Witt. “Our goal is simple – we want every student at Northwest University to graduate with a used passport!”
