New Creatio Studio Dedicated

New Creatio Studio Dedicated

The new recording studio for Creatio at Northwest University celebrated a dedication, ribbon cutting, and open house on Feb. 28. The studio is located in the Barton Building (formerly the Seattle Seahawks training headquarters).

“This studio will be used to teach our classes in Recording Arts Technology,” stated Jeff Lockhart, the Executive Director of Creatio. “Because this is a fully functioning commercial studio, our students have the benefit of hands-on experience with real technology. This blend of real-world use and learning is much like the principle behind a teaching hospital.”

The new studio was made possible by contributions of equipment and money.

“The first and the biggest gift was from Cedar Park Church,” explained Lockhart. “Because of the vision of Dr. Joseph Fuiten, the senior pastor, Cedar Park donated an Avid ICON console, with all of the accessories. This is the most advanced digital console in the entire world. It’s what they use in the big leagues, and it puts our studio in that category.” This console has 32 faders and multiple layers (128 instrument tracks and 256 midi tracks, for example).

Another key donation was from Jeff Lockhart’s brother, Rick Lockhart, Jr., the founder and owner of Flatline Guitars. Other donors recognized at the dedication were Derek Hoeim of Reign on Me Productions and Save the City Records, Julia and Mike Young, Gay Barnett, Ron Vanderveen, and Jeff and Ramona Guentzel.

The general contractor for the construction was Patterson Contractors, and the architect was Eric Drivdahl of Gelotte Hommas Architecture. The studio concept design was by Steve Smith, the Creative Director of Creatio, and the project manager was Steve Sankey of Northwest University. Construction began in April 2010 and was completed on August 31, 2010. The studio has been in use for this entire academic year.

Following the dedication and ribbon cutting, there was an open house and tour of the studio areas.
