Each year the month of January brings the start of a new semester. But it’s at this time that student athletes, pre-med majors, musicians, elementary education students, and students from every discipline rally around a long-standing NU tradition: Screaming Eagles Week. Affectionately known to students as SEW, during Screaming Eagle Week students from the residence halls, campus apartments, and off-campus residents compete against one another in a series of competitions for the ultimate campus bragging-rights. The victorious team is immortalized with an engraving on the SEW trophy.
The week’s festivities balance new and innovative challenges with long-standing traditions, such as the ever-popular Monday night Dodgeball Tournament. Each year the pavilion is crowded with hundreds of students, divided into 7 teams, and eager to “dodge, duck, dip, dive, and… dodge.”
This year the competition was especially fierce, but ultimately team FOA (consisting of students from the Firs, Off-Campus, and Apartments) came out on top beating the 400 Floor (2nd place) as well as the 500 Floor (3rd place).
