Women’s Soccer Team Hosts CCC Championship Title Game

Women’s Soccer Team Hosts CCC Championship Title Game

After a preseason plagued with injuries and struggle, the women’s soccer team, lead by coach Erin Redwine, turned their season into a winning record and claimed the no.1 seed going into their final game. By claiming the top spot in the conference NU had the opportunity to host the CCC Championship Title Game for the first time in the program’s history.

The game began at 1pm and although the sun was shining the brisk 47 degree weather kept fans bundled and huddled together. The crowd was here in full force and made their presence known. The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie in regulation with Northwest holding a lead until Kaylyn Winwood tied the score in the 80th minute with her 17 yarder from the right side. Micah Wenzel had given Northwest the 1-0 lead at the 32:35 mark of the first half as she drilled an 18 yarder past the CU goalkeeper as the ball was cleared out by the CU defense.

Concordia’s game winner came with just 1:12 remaining in the first overtime period. It was a climactic end to an impressive season. Women’s Soccer is a fairly young program at NU with just 6 years of history, but the team’s tenacity has been well recognized as 7 players were appointed to the All-CCC Team. Likewise, coach Erin Redwine was named Coach of the Year for the second straight year by her colleagues. NU couldn’t be more proud of our team!
