An NU Bucket List

An NU Bucket List

Every college student needs a bucket list: a list of things that must be accomplished in the four (more or less) years it takes to get an undergrad diploma. Some of the basic things that I think are really important for a NU bucket list involve living in the dorms.

Dorm life is the most diverse, exciting, and challenging situation I have ever lived in. Even as a deeply introverted person, I managed to create relationships that I have held since freshman year. As part of my ultimate bucket list, I have "live in the dorms" at the very top. Some things that are on the dorm list:

  1. Try to cook real meals in the community kitchen every once in a while. (Harder than it sounds!)
  2. Play at least one prank on your roommate.
  3. Keep a plant alive as long as possible. If that works out, get a fish.
  4. Dress up for your floor pic! You will deeply regret it if you don't.
  5. Make friends with your RA. They are handy for many reasons; from homework help, to conflict management, to needing a buddy to go to bubble tea.
  6. Oh, and definitely go on bubble tea runs. And Wendy's runs. And Fred Meyer runs. Just go on runs. And actually run, if that's your thing.
  7. Get creative in the Caf: make a crazy sandwich, drink, or omelet.
  8. Go on the floor retreat! No excuses.

Now that I live in the apartments, I have a lot more freedom to expand my bucket list. Some of the things that are on my current apartment bucket list (some have been completed, others not):

  1. Go to the community parties and bring food and eat food and play Jenga.
  2. Learn who your neighbors are.
  3. Cook a meal for everyone in your apartment.
  4. Have a Christmas party.
  5. Have a sleepover!

Finally, on my bucket list, I have some things from around campus that are a requirement to complete.

  1. Stay in the library until it closes. (Easier for some people than others. Namely, me.)
  2. Participate in Screaming Eagle Week.
  3. Attend the talent show, Christmas chapel, and Choralons chapel.
  4. Get involved in a Life Group! (An on-campus Bible study or ministry - there are tons to choose from.)
  5. Roll down the hills in the fall when there are piles of leaves.
  6. Go on a photography scavenger hunt; organize one yourself if you have to.
  7. Go to Evening (The formal event that NU holds every spring).

That's my bucket list for now. I always find new things to do on campus, so it's always changing. I'll definitely add to it in the future!
