The sun was warm that August day as my roommate and I rolled into campus. After filling out a bunch of papers promising we would be good students and follow the rules we were handed the keys to the place that would become "home" for the next year with two other friends.
Flash foward to the middle of second semester and A-104 has become my home away from home. Some days I do miss the dorms - I miss knowing who almost everyone is (even if I haven't met them), I miss all the events, and it truly is a unique experience to live on a floor with 20 other girls. Even so, I wouldn't trade my time in the apartments! I will admit that student apartment culture is much different from dorm culture. For one thing, it is much quieter up here, making study time easier, and there's a sense of maturity and independence I get from living in my own apartment; where I was able to go to the Caf for a meal, I now have to buy my own food and prepare it myself.
This independence has GOT to be one of my FAVORITE things about living in the apartments. I love being able to come and go when I please with no worries about a curfew. I love the quieter and more relaxed atmosphere, and I love being able to have friends over (the above picture is the first party my roommates and I hosted!) whenever (as long as the roomies are okay with it!)!
Since the very beginning, everything in A-104 has been smooth-sailing (except for the dishes and the trash, the 4 of us have had some trouble with that stuff)! I have been blessed to have some incredible, beautiful, and wonderful women of God to call my roommates. Though the 4 of us are very busy doing very different things, I really value those moments when we're finally in the living room together either watching The Bachelor or just sitting and talking.
It is true that Apartment life is much different than Dorm life, but I highly recommend and encourage that before a student graduates college, they need to experience the student apartments. It's a good transition from being that kid on their first day of school to adulthood. :)
