I am a firm believer in stories and adventures. I believe everyone has a beautifully unique story and life adventure that makes us who we are. Somehow you’ve managed to stumble upon Northwest University’s blog site where I have been given a platform to share parts of my odd and sometimes not-so-adventuresome stories. My job is to convince readers of the wonderful and fun things that happen here at NU. More than that, it is my personal mission to encourage you to yes, check out Northwest University (go Eagles!), but to also embrace the unique adventure that is your life. Also it is my goal to share a real story of a real person doing life with Christ, my friends, and my community.
My name is Serena Robles, I’m 21 years old, and I’m a Counseling Psychology major. Currently this is my second year at NU. I am a transfer student from a community college in San Diego, CA where I was born and raised until I left the sunshine for rainclouds. For those of you that come from areas that are wonderfully warm all year around just like Southern California: fear not! You do get used to the cold!!
The first thing you must know about me is my love for Christ. I hope that in everything posted by me it is evident that Christ is the center of my thoughts and actions. He is the reason I get to call NU and the Pacific Northwest home. Aside from that...I read way too much, well, not during the school year because of homework, but when I don’t have homework...I’m a bookworm. I enjoy writing and I enjoy road trips. This summer I drove up from San Diego to Salem, OR a 16 hour straight drive all by myself, and it was the best thing I’ve ever done! I love hitting the road and driving for a few hours at a time if I know I’m going somewhere exciting! I also enjoy my friendships, I know it sounds corny, but really, as long as I’m with my friends, we can be doing anything from going on walks to trying on footie-pajamas at Target (p.s. I’m the dark-haired one in the pink pajamas!)...it’s always a good time!
However, because time does not permit me to read or road trip all that much, I have instead dedicated my life to academics (booo...), working (2 nanny jobs--it’s super easy to find nanny jobs in this area!) and staying involved at NU. One of the ways I remain involved at school is through Lighthouse the homeless ministry I help co-lead. (I’ll probably blog more about Lighthouse in a later post).
As for why I blog...I blog because I can (and because it’s something I can do from the comfort of my on-campus apartment and in my pajamas)! Seriously though, I am passionate about writing and reaching people through this social media platform. I’ve been blogging on a personal level for about six years, and I’m blessed to have an opportunity to blog for Northwest University. I’ve decided to be part of this blogging team to hopefully present an authentic story of a typical student. I’m not an RA (resident assistant), I’m not the student body president, or a super cool athlete, and I’m not top of my class. I’m just your everyday student putting in my (hopefully) unique two-cents about this school I’ve come to love.
Serena Robles is a Christ-following, book-reading, San Diego grown/Seattle dwelling Psychology major at NU! She’s often found talking to homeless people or dreaming up adventuresome shenanigans. You can peruse her Twitter/Instagram @Serena_Lan.
