Overview
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Music Industry is offered in conjunction with the Contemporary Music
Center (CMC) of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). Located in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts,
the Center offers opportunity to spend a semester studying, living and working with faculty, music industry experts
and other students who share interest in making and marketing contemporary music.
A Northwest University graduate with any degree in music should be able to:
- Demonstrate skills needed to understand and explain theoretical constructs in the analysis of musical score.
- Understand and appreciate a broad range of musical styles and cultures.
- Show evidence of knowledge in the areas of music history and literature appropriate for the undergraduate level
and for entrance to graduate study.
- Perform competently both as a member of an ensemble and as a soloist.
- Effectively direct others in musical performances.
- Develop an ongoing acquisition of competence in existing and developing music computer programs.

- Science & Mathematics (10 credits)
- Quantitative Reasoning (PHIL 2703 acceptable)
- SCIE xxx4 Science course with Lab (4 credits)
- MATH/SCIE xxxx Math or Science Elective
- Social Science (12 credits)
- HIST xxx3 Any Course in History
- Choose three additional areas:
- Biblical Studies (16 credits)
Major Requirements (68 credits)
- Music Core (36 credits)
- Ensemble Requirements (5 credits)
(Ensemble courses must be passed to satisfy degree requirements. It is anticipated that one ensemble will be taken each enrolled semester.)
- Select 5 credits of the following
- Private Lessons (11 credits)*
- MUPL xxx1 Major Instrument (7 credits)
- MUPL xxx1 Minor Instrument (4 credits)
- Contemporary Music Program (16 credits)
The Contemporary Music Program is offered off campus through the CCCU program.

* If piano is not the student's major or minor instrument, MUAP 1111 & 2111 Class Piano I & II must also be taken
