Overview
The general Bachelor of Arts in Music is available to students who wish to explore the area of music without committing
to a specific vocational objective.
A Northwest University graduate with any degree in music should be able to:
- Demonstrate skills needed to understand and explain theoretical constructs in the analysis of musical score.
- Understand and appreciate a broad range of musical styles and cultures.
- Show evidence of knowledge in the areas of music history and literature appropriate for the undergraduate level
and for entrance to graduate study.
- Perform competently both as a member of an ensemble and as a soloist.
- Effectively direct others in musical performances.
- Develop an ongoing acquisition of competence in existing and developing music computer programs.

- Humanities (16 credits)
- Science & Mathematics (10 credits)
- Quantitative Reasoning (PHIL 2703 acceptable)
- SCIE xxx4 Science course with Lab (4 credits)
- MATH/SCIE xxxx Math or Science Elective
- Social Science (12 credits)
- HIST xxx3 Any Course in History
- Choose three additional areas:
- Church History or Political Science
- Economics (BUSM 2303 or
BUSM 2353
- Geography
- Philosophy (except PHIL 2703) PHIL 2753 recommended
- Physical Education
- PSYC 1013 General Psychology, recommended
- SOCI 1113 Survey of Sociology, recommended
- Biblical Studies (16 credits)

- Music Core (34 credits)
- Ensemble Requirements (8 credits)
(Ensemble courses must be passed to satisfy degree requirements. It is anticipated that one ensemble will be taken each enrolled semester.)

- MUPL xxx1 Major Instrument (8 credits)
- MUPL xxx1 Minor Instrument (4 credits)
- Supporting Music Courses (9 credits)
- MUSI 3432 Hymnody
- MUxx xxxx Music Electives (7 credits)
Select 7 credits from any MUSI, MUPL, or MUAP
General Elective Requirements (8 credits)
- Any college-level courses.
* If piano is not the student's major or minor instrument, MUAP 1111 & 2111 Class Piano I & II must also be taken
