Global Missions

Global Missions

Northwest University short-term missions trips seek to serve three purposes:

Serve God

As Christians, we are called to demonstrate compassion for those who are hurting, broken, and in need. In Colossians 3:12, God calls us "to put on compassionate hearts". We serve God through our obedience to Him.

Serve the Host

One of the greatest resources we possess as brothers and sisters in Christ to our hosts is an unrelenting heart to serve. While these hosts are doing amazing work in the spaces they occupy, often times it may come without a break. Serving from the simplest to the most complex of means is one way we can show love to one another.

Serve the People

We are called to serve one another humbly in love as stated in Galatians 5. As we feel the Spirit calling us into spaces and places around the world, we obediently listen to the call and take action. Through seeking Christ and loving each and every person we meet well, we naturally find ourselves serving the places of mission.

Why Do We Go on Missions?

When God calls us to a mission space, he's not looking for qualifications but rather an obedient heart to say yes to him and to have the boldness to step out in faith. It's these experiences that both stretch and grow us as followers of Christ.

To Spread the Gospel

Just as Jesus commanded the disciples in Mark 16, we are called to "go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation". In a practical sense, there are many places in the world that are largely unreached by Christianity. Contrastingly, there are places of cultural relevancy and influence that need to hear the Gospel with the same sense of urgency as the unreached.

To Help Meet the Spiritual and Physical Needs of People

Matthew 25:35-40 speaks to the fulfillment of need. Jesus instructed that as we love the hungry, thirsty, unclothed, sick, in need, we are loving him. These situations can often be overlooked but in its simplest form, it is serving and loving Christ by doing so to others.

To Grow as Christ-Followers

Seeing the Church in a global context is really an amazing thing to experience. The saying that missions trips are life-changing experiences is an understatement. We expect God to move in both the people groups we minister to and within our very soul.
