Background

Brian Humphreys has been immersed in the field of international community development for the past 19 years. His current doctoral work in semiotics, church and culture, as well as his prior studies in international community development, intercultural work, and theology, have shaped his diverse practice in the field. After serving overseas in various capacities, including several years in the Dominican Republic running economic development and youth entrepreneurship projects, Brian and his wife Kristy returned to Tacoma, Washington. Brian now works locally in Tacoma in grassroots community engagement, leadership development, early childhood development advocacy, financial inclusion, and workforce development focusing on large-scale collaboration to address complex problems.

Brian is passionate about the intersection of Christian peacemaking and the global challenge of economic inequality. His primary teaching interests lie in best practices for community development, the psychology of trust and listening, economic peacemaking, and social entrepreneurship.
