Before coming to Northwest, Dr. Delamarter began his career in education teaching high-school English. An ardent and devoted lover of literature, he does his best to sneak literary themes and ideas into all of his courses, much to the chagrin and occasional delight of his students.
Dr. Delamarter is currently the Director of Field Experiences and head of the MIT program in the College of Education. He teaches graduate courses on educational research methods, educational philosophy, and professional certification. He also serves on various state-level committees, working closely with the Professional Educators Standards Board (PESB), the Washington Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (WACTE), and other groups both to monitor and advocate for excellence in the preparation of Washington’s future teachers.
His current research has two distinct aims: 1) examining how teacher preparation programs systematically help pre-service teachers align their pre-conceived expectations of teaching with the realities that they will face once they reach the classroom; 2) exploring the relationships between classroom variables and measures of pre-service teacher effectiveness, such as the edTPA. These research aims are, he assures you, interesting.
Dr. Delamarter has three children, considers himself a fairly good cook, is a bit of an overzealous sci-fi geek, loathes writing about himself in the third-person, and is hesitantly and fearfully training for a marathon this spring.
