Background

I was born and raised in California and lived there until 2013, when my family relocated to Washington. My passion for education and teaching was solidified in high school, when I volunteered my time with at-risk youth in my community. I spent 13 years in the public school classroom, teaching mathematics and science to both middle and high school students. During that time, I developed an interest in the field of educating pre-service teachers, specifically in the areas of instructional design, as well as mathematics and science teaching pedagogy. This interest led me to pursue my M.Ed. and transition from K-12 education to higher education here at Northwest University. My current academic interests center on culturally responsive teaching, with an intentional focus on how this applies to the mathematics classroom at both elementary and secondary levels.

Interests

Outside of my work day, I enjoy knitting, reading, hiking, avoiding cooking as much as possible, coloring, and cycling. I am blessed with a wonderful husband, two creative and opinionated children, two dogs and one fish.
