Dr. Troy Bender recently completed his Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) degree with an emphasis in PA education and leadership which included a focus on PA program accreditation standards from the University of Lynchburg in 2020. Dr Bender has been involved in PA education for the past seven years. He began his career in PA education as a clinical preceptor and guest lecturer prior to assuming the role as founding program director of a new PA program in northeastern Oklahoma in January of 2018. Dr. Bender earned his master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Missouri State University in 2009 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix in Denver, CO in 2000. Dr Bender brings 29 years of experience in healthcare and has worked as a Physician Assistant for the past eleven years, he specialized in orthopedic spine surgery and emergency medicine.
Prior to becoming a PA, Dr Bender was trained as a EMT/paramedic and served in that role since 1992. During his career in EMS, he taught multiple continuing education courses and was actively involved in outreach education with local EMS services and various hospitals. He served as a flight paramedic for eight years, was involved in new-hire advanced critical care training, he was a field training officer and was promoted to Regional Director for a flight program in Texas. He also served on numerous area, regional and state trauma advisory council committees as well as the Texas Governor's EMS and trauma advisory council committee.
Dr Bender’s first academic appointment was with University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, TX. He has also worked as an adjunct faculty instructor with Angelina College in Lufkin, TX.
Dr Bender enjoys frequent trip to the mountains to ski, fish, hike, and play golf. He loves watching baseball and always roots on the Texas Rangers.
