Director of Alumni and Parent Relations

The Director of Alumni and Parent Relations will report to the Executive Director of Development and the Northwest University Foundation to ensure the growth and fundraising success of the University. The Director of Alumni and Parent Relations will create and implement strategies to cultivate and involve key alumni and top parent donor prospects for the purposes of relationship development and major donor giving. The Director of Alumni and Parent Relations will also serve as an additional point of contact for the University for specific donors and prospects, as well as provide oversight to the management of the Development Solicitation Team. This is a full-time FTE position.
1. ALUMNI RELATIONS:
- Identify and build effective, ongoing relationships with targeted key alumni donors and prospects.
- Communicate with key alumni, donors and prospects via one-to-one cultivation, event participation, phone calls, emails, hand-written notes, and letters.
- Direct and plan alumni events (affinity group development, target area events, reunions, homecoming, etc.) to engage alumni in participatory programs.
- Direct and help develop alumni affinity groups with emphasis on alumni participation and giving.
- Direct and implement strategies for key alumni programs for involvement and major donor cultivation, including event participation and other fundraising programs/projects as determined; utilize/create a giving community program (i.e. President’s Circle).
- Develop strategies for annual campaigns and appeals; create project codes for each.
- Communicate and promote alumni stories as a member of the Passages editorial board.
- Manage the Alumni Board, in partnership with the Board President, providing leadership, oversight and direction to make the Board active and effective.
- Raise visibility of NU Alumni Association with faculty, staff and university leadership.
- Ensure that the University President and senior leadership are aware of influential alumni who have the greatest potential to partner with NU.
2. PARENT RELATIONS:
- Research and identify top parent donor prospects of current and past students.
- Create and manage annual top parent donor prospect lists for engagement, one-to-one relationship, major gift cultivation and solicitation.
- Involve top parent donor prospects in strategic events, annual fundraising events and in the life of the university through lectures, student performances, etc.
- Communicate with top parent donor prospects via one-to-one cultivation, event participation, phone calls, emails, hand-written notes, letters and publications.
- Create annual strategy for broad parental engagement, involvement and communication.
- Create or utilize a parent advisory council or giving community for annual major gifts.
- Actively manage, with annual expected revenue goals, a donor giving portfolio for select alumni and top parent donor prospects.
- Oversees management of the student Solicitation Team.
- Set, meet and/or exceed annual team goals for student Solicitation Team; for call campaign and marketing success.
- Manage and assist in developing marketing materials for mailings, events and other methods of alumni and donor outreach.
- Oversees management of web-based communication to alumni.
- Administer training for the Development Services Program Manager and student Solicitation Team.
- Attend all advancement, development, and fundraising meetings.
- Identify and initiate contact with potential planned/deferred gift prospects.
- Learn, grow and remain proficient through gift planning seminars and conferences.
- Other projects as assigned.
- Completion of a Northwest University degree required, master’s degree preferred.
- Fundraising experience preferred.
- Ability to conduct a relational telephone conversation, email, or letter with skill and grace.
- Ability and desire to represent Northwest University in a positive way.
- Disciplined work habits and personal motivation.
- Dependable in attendance, follow through and task completion.
- Interest in continuing in the position for several years strongly preferred.
- Must maintain a specified level of productivity with an understanding that the tasks at hand are important to the future of the University.
- Must demonstrate an ability to adhere to policy and procedures established by the University.
- Demonstrates commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.
- Ability to communicate effectively; getting along well with co-workers, dealing effectively and professionally with colleagues.
40-plus hours per week required, with a significant amount of scheduling flexibility.
- Work is generally performed indoors in a typical office setting.
- Occasional weekend/evening work required.
- Position works with strictly confidential information.
- Frequently required to be in front of a computer screen for long periods of time.
The functions are usually performed while standing, but may involve some amount of time sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting (max. of 40 lbs.), walking, carrying, reaching, stretching, climbing, perform repetitive motions of the hands or wrists and other movements. The abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking are also required.
