Position Summary

Provides support in functional areas of the HR department, which includes recruitment and employment, personnel records, employee relations, job evaluation, benefits administration, and organizational development and training.  Serves as the primary contact for the HR department.  Manages the student employment program, hiring of adjunct faculty for onsite, online and extension campus programs.   Handles a broad range of confidential information, and provides administrative support to the Director of HR. Responsibilities must be accomplished without direct supervision.  This is a full-time position.

Essential Functions

  1. Manages all aspects of the student employment program.
    • Coordinates details with supervisors and posts open positions.
    • Conducts group and individual student orientation meetings.
    • Participates in on campus events to promote student employment program.
    • Manages student evaluation process.
    • Keeps student job descriptions up-to-date.
    • Responsible for maintain all aspects of student personnel files.
  2. Responsible for hiring adjunct faculty onsite and remotely and assists with FT faculty and staff hires.  
    • Handles orientation and hiring process for adjuncts.
    • Responsible for maintaining all aspects of adjunct personnel files.
    • Conducts orientation for staff and faculty as needed, including benefits orientation.
    • Generates offer and non-selection employment letters as directed.
  3. Provides administrative support to the HR department, serving as the senior HR Assistant.
    • Performs duties for the Director of HR in his/her absence.
    • Participates in organizing various HR related events.
    • Manages and tracks Employee Longevity Award program.
    • Assists with updating the eagle website for HR.
    • Assists with organizing and coordinating annual Open Enrollment.
    • Compiles, tabulates, and manages 360-degree evaluations for senior administrative and their direct reports.
    • Manages personnel files for all employees (current and former) and enters data in the HRIS system.
    • Partners with HR Assistant I to ensure all personnel files and I-9 records (active and terminated) are properly maintained. Conducts bi-annual audit to ensure accuracy.
  4. When needed, hires, trains and supervises an HR student worker, including delegating tasks and projects to expedite flow of services. Monitors, evaluates, and provides constructive feedback to the SA to assure accuracy and efficiency.  
  5. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field. A combination of education and specific HR experience may be a substitute for the four year degree.
  2. Minimum of three years of HR and supervisory experience required.
  3. Knowledge of HR management information systems and principles and practices of human resources policies.
  4. Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  5. Self-starter – interruptible and flexible.
  6. Ability to organize, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and use standard office tools.
  7. Strong verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  8. Strong attention to detail, organization and consistent accuracy required.
  9. Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional growth.
  10. Ability to productively supervise the work of others.
  11. Strong computer skills:  Windows, Website, MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) and Access.
  12. Familiarity with a university environment preferred.
  13. Ability to work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing responsibilities, challenges and deadlines.
  14. Proven ability to communicate in a courteous, polished and professional manner.
  15. Demonstrate commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.
  16. Ability to communicate effectively, works well with co-workers, and deals effectively and professionally with colleagues.

Working Environment

  1. Work is generally performed indoors in a typical office setting.
  2. Position works with strictly confidential information.
  3. Frequently required to be in front of a computer screen for long periods.

Physical Demands

The functions are usually performed while sitting, but may involve some amount of time standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting (max. of 20 lbs.), walking, carrying, reaching, stretching, perform repetitive motions of the hands or wrists and other movements.  The abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking are also required.
