Position Summary

Direct and coordinate all activities relating to the Women’s Softball Program in keeping with the Vision and Mission of Northwest University. Comply with provision/procedures in the employee and staff manuals for Northwest University. Support and implement by professional and individual life style the Vision and Mission of the University and Athletics. The Fitness Center Coordinator executes the development, marketing, implementation, supervision, safety and coordination of the Eagle Fitness Center and its programming. This person will hire, train, schedule, approve time cards and supervise the fitness center attendants and provide for the general care and maintenance of the fitness equipment and the facility. The Fitness Center Coordinator also serves as a fitness center attendant for 15 hours per week. This position is a 1.0 FTE.

Essential Functions

COACHING SOFTBALL:

  1. Teach and coach the sport of softball, coordinate practice and game fields, plan, prepare lesson plans for all practice sessions, schedule all games including scrimmages, and plan, prepare, and supervise all travel for your sports program.
  2. Recruit, retain, and graduate student athletes that fit the culture of Northwest University. 
  3. Hire and supervise assistant coaching staff, abide by all Northwest University guidelines, abide by all Cascade Conference and NAIA guidelines, attend and help with the athletic Hall of Fame, and any other work assigned by the Athletic Director.

FITNESS COORDINATOR:

  1. Work in the EFC behind the desk 15 hours a week. Staff the fitness center. Recruit, interview, hire, train, and supervise student employees as room attendants.  Determine work schedule, assign work, evaluate performance, and provide support as necessary. 
  2. Execute the development, marketing, implementation, supervision, safety and coordination of a comprehensive fitness center and its programming.
  3. Assist in the development of a long range planning for the fitness center including equipment inventory, planning equipment replacement/upgrades, scheduling equipment maintenance, evaluating of ongoing programming as well as developing and implementing new programming, and potential new revenue streams. 

Education/Experience/Skills

MANDATORY:

  1. Baccalaureate Degree in an athletically oriented field or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  2. One to three years of experience in coaching.
  3. Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  4. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
  5. Possess current, recognized certification in First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne pathogens training, or commit to becoming so certified before practices begin.
  6. Demonstrate commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination
  7. Ability to communicate effectively, get along well with co-workers, and deal effectively and professionally with colleagues

PREFERRED:

  1. Masters or doctoral degree in athletically oriented field or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  2. Three to five years of coaching experience.
  3. Proven quality organizational and leadership skills.
  4. Proven interpersonal, written, and verbal presentation skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT 

  1. Work is generally performed indoors in a typical office setting. 
  2. Some weekend/evening work required. 
  3. Travel, including overnight travel, may be required.  
  4. Position works with strictly confidential information.
  5. Requires work in outdoor weather conditions, including wet, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  6. Frequently required to be in front of a computer screen for long periods of time.
  7. Work requires occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and bloodborne pathogens.
  8. Risk of fire or explosion and electric shock.
  9. May be exposed to loud noise levels.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The functions are usually performed while standing, but may involve some amount of time sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting (max. of 40 lbs.), walking, carrying, reaching, stretching, climbing, perform repetitive motions of the hands or wrists and other movements.  The abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking are also required.
