Position Summary

Lead the efforts of the Academic Success and Advising Office.

Essential Functions

1. Direct the operations of the Academic Success and Advising  Office.

  • Hire and supervise personnel.
  • Manage the testing center.
  • Oversee the career services program.

2. Lead the academic advising process for new and continuing Kirkland traditional undergraduate students. 

  • Continually developing and implementing strategies for effective student advising.
  • Assess, train and direct faculty advisors.
  • Supervise advising within the office of Academic Success and Advising.
  • Plan and coordinate Summer Registration events.
  • Assist the Registrar for effective course scheduling, registration process, and degree auditing system.
  • Provide direct Academic Advising for students as part of the services the office provides.

3. Guide academic success and support efforts.

  • Lead student success program for Kirkland traditional students admitted into the Success program and for those placed on academic probation.
  • Teach 1 credit Academic Success class.
  • Serve as part of the retention committee to continually develop and implement programs/interventions for Kirkland traditional students of concern.
  • Manage academic tutoring for students in all modalities.
  • Participate in campus wide Enrollment and Orientation events to introduce students to support services.
  • Serve as an ombudsperson for Kirkland traditional student concerns/ issues and assist students with academic petitions.

4. Manage and serve as a resource for support services for students with disabilities in all modalities.

5. Participate in university committees as assigned including:

  • Academic Services Team.
  • Academic Affairs Committee as a resource person.
  • Enrollment Management Team
  • Retention Committee
  • PATH (inter-deparmental committee intended to identify students in need of additional support)
  • New Student Orientation Committee
  • Faculty Council Associate Member

6. Perform other work- related duties as assigned.


  1. Master’s degree required.
  2. Previous experience in initiating and developing programs and services.
  3. Previous experience with student academic services at the college level.
  4. Self- motivated with the ability to get along with students, staff, and faculty from different cultural, socio-economic, and religious backgrounds.
  5. Ability to listen, to problem- solve, to be creative, to stay calm in potentially volatile situations.
  6. Experience with study skills pedagogy, retention programs, and/or disability services preferred.
  7. Able to learn new technologies.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.
  9. Proven ability to communicate effectively, get along well with co-workers, and deal effectively and professionally with colleagues.
