Professor John Philip (Phil) Gustafson, who taught math and science courses at Northwest University and served as the head of the Math department for many years, passed away on July 7, 2023.

Mr. Gustafson was born in Seattle, Washington, on November 29, 1933, to John and Mia Gustafson. He met his wife, Roberta York, at church, and they were married on December 18, 1954, in Corvallis, Oregon. The couple had two sons, Gary and Doyle.

Phil began his teaching career at Oregon City High School where he taught science and math and earned his Master of Science degree from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, in 1960. In 1966, he accepted an invitation to teach at NU (then Northwest Bible College), where he continued his career until 1999.

After retiring in 1999, he pursued his other passions and interests such as photography and golf and spent time with his large, growing family. He is survived by his wife, both sons, their wives, as well as his nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

We are thankful for Phil’s life, legacy, and the impact he had at Northwest University. Please join us in praying for his family and loved ones during this time.
