Northwest University Students Visit New Day Northwest TV Show at KING 5 in Seattle
Every year Northwest University Dr. Peg Achterman teaches Mass Communication, she gives her students the unique opportunity to see media production in action at KING 5 television station in downtown Seattle. With over 17 years as a former TV news photographer, Dr. Achterman knew her students could benefit from an inside look at the broadcast journalism industry.
This semester, Dr. Achterman’s class witnessed the behind-the-scenes activities of the television talk show New Day Northwest, which is hosted by Margaret Lason and airs weekdays at 11:00am. Students got to sit in the live studio audience, ask questions about the execution of the show, and meet special guests featured on the program.
NU soccer players Edgar Esquivel, D.J. Bechtel, and other audience members enjoyed getting their photo taken with and hearing from Seattle Sounders soccer player Steve Zakuani, a guest from that morning.
New Day Provides Student With On-Camera Opportunity
A highlight of the trip for sophomore Meredith Tillery included the chance to model on live TV! New Day stylist Darcy Camden chose Tillery for a special fashion segment of the program to showcase clothing from the newly remodeled “Super Mall” in Auburn, WA, now known as The Outlet Collection. NU students were surprised and delighted to receive gift bags with coupons, fun accessories, and a $25 gift card to the Pacific Northwest's largest indoor outlet mall.
