Screaming Eagles Week 2015 Makes NU History
Each year, as the month of January comes to a close and the reality of a new semester hits, Northwest University students participate in Screaming Eagles Week. Screaming Eagles Week (SEW) is a long-standing tradition involving competitions between campus residential areas. Highly anticipated by all students, this event-packed week features a different theme every year that teams select from to decorate their living areas. This year’s theme was “Plays and Musicals.”
The week was filled with big events and smaller daily challenges that helped teams earn points and build community. Monday night’s dodgeball tournament, Wednesday’s intramural basketball games, and Friday’s floor Olympics brought out students’ competitive spirit. However, Tuesday’s floor decorating competition, in which each residence hall puts on a skit that corresponds with its theme, and Thursday’s music video parody film festival revealed the teams’ creativity.
This year’s SEW competition made NU history, as the FOA team (FIRS, off-campus, and apartments) claimed their first win. This monumental victory acts as a reminder of the strong sense of community found in all living areas at NU. The coveted trophy — the stump — was awarded to the FOA “Flanimals” at the conclusion of Friday night’s floor Olympics competitions.
