Counseling Faculty and Students Present at the WACES Conference
In October, Dr. Esther McCartney, along with current clinical mental health counseling students RiaQueen Abelon, Metasebia Dejemo, and alumna Nikhila Pokkuluri (class of 2022), presented at the biannual Western Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (WACES) conference in Portland, Oregon.
Their presentation, titled Using the Discriminant Model with a Multicultural Lens for Counseling Interns, focused on their own personal experiences receiving multicultural supervision as counseling interns in Northwest University’s Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program as well as current research on the subject. The presenters also shared current implications for counselor educators and supervisors, and they hope to explore this topic further with a qualitative study.
In addition, our students were able to meet and network with other counseling professionals and students from the western ACES region who were at the conference.
