Lunar New Year
Every spring, the International Education Department hosts a Lunar New Year event so that we can join in celebration with our international students. Lunar New Year is a special holiday that many cultures celebrate. In a typical year, we celebrate by having a buffet of delicious food, often made by our students. We also invite the local Lion dance to come as entertainment. It is a wonderful cultural experience for all!
This year, due to COVID-19, we were not able to host our normal event. However, all NU students were able to learn about Lunar New Year and how it is celebrated in a variety of countries. One of the traditions during Lunar New Year is for family members to put money into elaborate red envelopes for one another. NU students did not get money, but they did get chocolate coins! Our CELE students shared what Lunar New Year meant to them and provided pictures of their families celebrating.
International students bring such rich diversity to our culture and we could not be more thankful for them!
