Charting the Future: Alec Rowlands

Last spring, the whole world was talking about revival on college campuses, especially in reference to the remarkable two weeks at Asbury University. Students at Northwest University also gathered for special prayer times to seek God for a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our time. As the great historian of revival J. Edwin Orr wrote in his classic book Campus Aflame: A History of Evangelical Awakenings in Collegiate Communities, revivals have tended to be born in colleges throughout American history. It is precisely young people who are typically open to God doing a new thing. Accordingly, Northwest University students are always seeking God for revival. For over 20 years, hundreds of them have met every Monday night for prayer and worship and ministry to each other in pursuit of God’s presence and power.

Pastor Alec Rowlands, who came to the Seattle area from his home country of South Africa, has been a constant voice calling the church to prepare for revival for over 30 years. In the attached video, he talks about his experience with Northwest University. We are proud of our long friendship with Alec, and we love his heart for revival.

Do take time to listen to his testimony. But even more importantly, take time today to pray that God will visit our campus with a mighty revival that will last for many years. Our students need to experience the power of God during their college years so that it will shape the rest of their lives. We will never stop—as our alma mater says—seeking God “for power and truth to keep our calling true.”
