Charting the Future: Clint Bryan
We choose Northwest University faculty members from a select group of academics: we hire no one unless we believe they can not only teach their academic specialty with excellence, but also disciple our students in the Christian faith. Candidates for faculty positions are carefully vetted by their deans and prospective faculty colleagues, the Provost, the President, and finally, by the Personnel Committee of the Board of Directors. After demonstrating professional competence and academic qualification, a warm and personal relationship with Jesus Christ gets a candidate to the starting line. Commitment to the authority of Holy Scripture and fidelity to New Testament morality move them down the path, and personal spiritual maturity and a willingness to share their faith life with students leads on to a job offer. We have to know that faculty members will not drift away from our mission or influence students to do the same.
Clint Bryan, Associate Professor of English and Dean-elect of the College of Arts and Sciences, offers a paradigm for the kind of professors we seek. Before finishing his PhD and entering academia full-time, he was a pastor and a National Youth Ministries leader for 25 years.
